Stonebwoy has won the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year title.
The evening’s festivities saw the multitalented artist, who is primarily recognized as a Reggae/Dancehall phenomenon, take home five additional honors: Record of the Year, Audio Engineer of the Year (shared with Mix Masta Garzy), EP/Album of the Year (for 5th Dimension), Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Songwriter of the Year (Manodzi with Angelique Kidjo), International Collaboration of the Year (Manodzi), and Collaboration of the Year (Liqor with KiDi).
Although this is officially Stonebwoy’s second Artiste of the Year win, he claimed in his acceptance speech that it was actually his third.
He clarified that he was the 2019 winner who wasn’t declared. He therefore pleaded with Charterhouse, the organization behind the Ghana Music Awards, to validate and make public his sincere belief.
He expressed gratitude to Master of Ceremonies (MC) Portfolio for traveling from Kumasi to Accra in order to “tell the truth” in an effort to win support for the arduously earned victory. He also praised Louisa (Dr.), his wife, for her assistance.

King Promise was the clear favorite to take home the trophy for the first time for a very long time.
But in the days preceding the June 1 celebration, a vigorous campaign was launched to highlight Stonebwoy’s accomplishments and efforts throughout the year in question, which ran from January 1 to December 31, 2023.
Currently, Stonebwoy and rapper Sarkodie are the only two solo musicians to receive the highest honors at Ghana’s premier entertainment event.
Theresa Ayoade, CEO of Charterhouse, Andrew Egyapa Mercer ESQ, Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MoTAC), and Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, leader of the Creative Arts Council, presented him with his trophy.
As Ms. Ayoade expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the event, Ms. Akufo-Addo emphasized the significance of Ghanaian music and its creators. Mr. Egyapa Mercer then made the largest revelation of the evening, though there was little anticipation because the time was already well spent, he said.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) got underway at 9 AM on Saturday, June 1 and ran till 3 AM on Sunday, June 2.
