The Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency MP, Dickson Adomako Kissi, has justified the recent $300 million tax waivers given to over 40 corporations in Ghana, pointing out that pro-business administrations frequently implement policies of this nature.

On Friday, September 6, 2024, he said in an interview with ABC News Ghana that these waivers foster a climate that is favorable to both investors and enterprises.

Adomako Kissi clarified, highlighting the significance of the economic growth program saying “It is not unusual for a government that is pro-business to use this as a way of creating an enabling environment for businesses to work. And an enabling environment for investors to feel comfortable working in this country,”

The minority in Parliament, who has declined to support the tax waivers, is strongly opposing his remarks.

The minority argues that businesses associated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) gain disproportionately from the exemptions.

These assertions were disputed by Adomako Kissi, who maintained that the tax exemptions have no political motivation.

Citing instances of businesses that were granted comparable exemptions during the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, he emphasized that the goal of the policy is to promote corporate expansion rather than to support a specific political party.
