The Speaker of Parliament has received a petition from the Minority Caucus in Parliament, which has officially expressed reservations about the Ad-Hoc Committee’s chairmanship.

The caucus is awaiting the Speaker’s reaction before moving further with the committee’s work, Minority Leader Osafo Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin wrote in a memo to the Committee Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah.

Concerns regarding the fairness, impartiality, and trustworthiness of the committee’s proceedings are highlighted in the memorandum, which was also copied to the Majority Leader and the Leader of Government Business.

The Minority has made it clear that their position is meant to guarantee due process and openness, not to indicate that they will not interact with the committee.

In order to preserve parliamentary integrity, they have urged the Speaker to respond to their concerns.

It is anticipated that the Speaker’s choice will have an impact on how the committee operates.

The Minority Caucus, meantime, has reaffirmed its dedication to a resolution that promotes trust in the procedure.
