In an intimate interview with 29-year-old Ghanaian mother Karen Baaba Sam, she disclosed that her 5-year-old daughter is her pride and that she will do anything in the world to be with her and raise her to be the woman God intended her to be.
While Ms. Sam admits that her difficult early upbringing may have influenced some of her decisions, both good and bad, she is committed to making sure her daughter receives the best care possible and to guiding her in making the right decisions throughout her life.
When Baaba Sam chose to share her story of alleged abuse and domestic violence at the hands of her ex-partner and real estate developer, Nana Kwadwo Adjei, with whom she had lived for more than five years, she became well-known in Ghana.
Ms. Sam stated that although she regrets this relationship decision, she finds comfort in the knowledge that God has gifted her with a lovely baby daughter who is developing into a stunning woman.
“I have a lot of ambitions in this life, and I believe that through the Grace of God, I will be able to achieve them all. However, my daughter, who I know sincerely in my heart of hearts, is a gift from God, and she will remain my topmost priority. Having her by my side is not negotiable. I will do everything within my means and power to have her, Baaba Sam said.
Ms. Sam pointed out that she is aware that her ex-partner, Nana Kwadwo Adjei, has rented the press and that they are carrying out his wishes through their newspapers and internet portals in reference to recent media reports about her alleged unwillingness to follow a court order pertaining to her child.
“Those publications do not bother me at all. When I see or read them, they motivate me to fight even harder for full custody of my daughter and to give her the best care any mother would give to her own child. For those media outlets that are allowing themselves to be used by Nana Adjei, please know that he is using you online to achieve the impossible,” Baaba stated.
“My lawyers have filed various processes in court, and I have all the confidence in the judiciary. I know a good judge will be appointed to hear the case and adjudicate it to its logical conclusion,” Ms. Sam further reiterated.

Karen gives a terrifying story of the terrifying events that started in 2016 and ended in a contentious custody dispute over their daughter, Ohemaa. In 2016, Karen got to know Nana Adjei.
A relationship that at first appeared to be protective and loving quickly took a negative turn.
Given that the majority of his children from past relationships resided overseas with their moms, Nana Adjei seemed thrilled when she became pregnant with their daughter in 2018.
But when his second son, who had moved in with them, fled after being physically abused by his father, rifts started to appear.
The first instance of domestic violence, according to Karen, happened in December 2018 when Nana Adjei came home intoxicated from a night out.
She got slaps and kicks to her body, even her pregnant belly, when she questioned him about his whereabouts.
She recalled, “I was more scared for my unborn child than for myself.”
She was able to contact Leeroy, a friend, who stepped in. Later, Nana Adjei expressed regret and blamed his behavior on the alcohol he had drunk.
Karen claims that she has had numerous physical attacks over the years, which frequently left her with black eyes and a swollen face. Her brother reported the incident to the East Legon Police Station, but nothing happened.
Karen claims that because Nana Adjei boasted about his power inside the police, she was unable to pursue justice. When Karen saw Nana Adjei at a restaurant in April 2023 with another woman—later revealed to be his new girlfriend—that was the tipping point for her.
The woman publicly humiliated her when she tried to drive away with him in Nana Adjei’s car, and Nana Adjei did nothing to stop it. Karen decided to go.
When she arrived home, though, Nana Adjei assaulted her once more and battered her in front of their daughter.
Additionally, Nana Adjei attacked two German family friends who attempted to step in. Nana Adjei even kicked their daughter during the commotion, causing her to collapse and sob.
Karen quit the relationship in December 2023 because she was determined to leave the violence.
In response, Nana Adjei threatened to take back everything he had given her, including their daughter’s school car.
In February 2024, Karen left because she feared more abuse.
Karen was robbed at gunpoint on her first night in her new house, and everything she owned was taken.
When Nana Adjei sought the return of a particular necklace, the only precious item the burglars did not take, she thought the timing was unusual.
Authorities assigned her police protection because they thought someone close to her was responsible for the attack.
