Discussions to create a direct route between Accra and Ouagadougou are currently underway as part of President John Mahama’s aspirations to enhance economic ties between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
President Mahama said that a Ghanaian airline would launch a daily flight between the two capitals in an effort to improve connectivity and ease trade, following a meeting with Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the military chief of Burkina Faso.
“We discussed trade between our two countries, particularly in agricultural products, and how we can ease the process for exporters and importers.”
“One of the key initiatives is the introduction of a direct Accra-Ouagadougou flight, with an airline in Ghana already showing interest,” he stated.
President Mahama mentioned that talks also centered on energy cooperation in addition to aviation connectivity.
He said that efforts are in motion to improve the petroleum product transit corridor and boost Ghana’s exports of electricity to Burkina Faso.
He said that in order to expedite the supply of fuel and diesel, Burkina Faso recently purchased a fuel storage terminal, and both nations are thinking about expanding Ghana’s current pipeline from Bolgatanga to Ouagadougou.
