The New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Ghana has declared that the election for the next president, to succeed Nana Akufo-Addo, will take place on November 4.

Due to term restrictions, President Akufo-Addo, in office since 2017, is not permitted to seek reelection.

Following the party’s executive meeting, the general secretary issued the declaration. In the interim, a news conference for the party chair is scheduled for April 4, 2023. He declared that the party is committed to making sure that the primary process is organized, fair, and transparent so that a strong candidate can be chosen who can help the party win the 2024 presidential election.

Many contenders have already declared their candidacy for the 2018 nominations, in addition to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen.

Since the NPP won the 2016 presidential election, it has been in power. In the forthcoming election, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the largest opposition party, would provide the party with fierce competition. The NPP’s chances of remaining in power in 2024 will be heavily influenced by the choice of a capable candidate to serve as its leader.
