Mr. Kwabena Amofa, also known as Alhaji, has been turned over to the police by the Konongo Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region for interrogation and potential prosecution about his alleged involvement in illicit mining operations in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality.

Mr. Amofa is thought to have played a major role in the growing galamsey operations in Konongo, which have seriously harmed the environment, especially by destroying farmlands and waterways.

The Traditional Council had previously called Mr. Amofa to address worries that he was the brains behind the harmful mining operations in the region, under the direction of Konongohene, Nana Dr. Ing. Awuah Abedimisa II.

Mr. Amofa allegedly begged for forgiveness during the meeting and promised the council that he would put an end to all such operations.

The council then learned that the situation had worsened, despite his assurance, which sparked a heightened sense of urgency.

In retaliation, Nana Dr. Awuah called another meeting of Mr. Amofa and the entire council.

The council decided after discussion to turn him over to the Konongo District Police Command for additional examination and possible legal action.

Many locals have praised the action as a daring initiative to stop illicit mining in the region and restore environmental serenity.
