The Ministry of Transport and transport operators have successfully negotiated a 15% reduction in transit fares, which will take effect on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Fuel prices have significantly decreased as a result of recent macroeconomic developments, such as the cedi’s steady strengthening versus the US dollar, which is reflected in the fare adjustment.

Additionally, the development follows the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association’s mandate to lower vehicle parts costs in response to the improved exchange rate.

In an interview with Citi News, Abass Imoro, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union’s (GPRTU) Industrial Relations Officer, acknowledged the ticket cut and called it a timely move to reduce commuters’ financial burdens and match with current market trends.

“We have finally agreed to reduce lorry fares by 15%, but it will take effect from Saturday. Although currently, spare parts sellers have promised to reduce some of their prices for now, which hasn’t taken effect, and none of the lubricants which went up has been reduced currently, but we decided to peg the reduction at 15%.”
