This morning, Kumawu voters will choose a new member of parliament in a by-election that is scheduled to begin at 7am and end at 5pm.
Due to the passing of the incumbent MP Phillip Basoah, who was laid to rest on Saturday, May 20, 2023, a by-election has been called.
Three candidates are running for office: Kwasi Amankwaa of the National Democratic Congress, Ernest Yaw Anim of the ruling New Patriotic Party, and two independents who also happen to share the name Kwaku Duah.
The public has been reassured by the Ghana Police Service that necessary precautions have been taken to uphold law and order and guarantee peace and security before to, during, and following the by-election.
In order to support the local Police in securing the election, the Police claimed that sufficient people had been dispatched to Kumawu and the other communities within the Constituency.
On May 22, 2023, at the district police command in Kumawu, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, met with the leaders of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
Before, during, and after the by-election, the Ghana Police Service has reassured the populace that necessary precautions have been taken to maintain law and order and ensure peace and security.
According to the police, sufficient personnel have been sent to Kumawu and the other settlements in the constituency to assist the local police in securing the election.
On May 22, 2023, at the district police headquarters in Kumawu, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress were met by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
