A Kenyan national was detained by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) for allegedly smuggling 11.04 kilograms of cocaine worth $309,120 at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The culprit was apprehended on Saturday, April 15, 2023, according to a statement from NACOC.

The hidden narcotics were found in containers of Cremora food that were found in her suitcase.

She was later arrested for further investigation after preliminary questioning revealed that she had acknowledged possession of the item in her luggage.

The statement added that the exhibits had been forwarded to the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) for examination and report, and that the suspect was being detained in custody pending more inquiries and legal action.

In a statement titled “NACOC assures the public that it is committed to minimizing the drug trafficking menace to the country,” Francis Opoku Amoah AG. Director of Public Affairs was quoted as saying.

The Commission desires to use this medium to remind the public that provisions 40 (1) and 41 (1) of Act 1019 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020 make it illegal and criminal to possess and transport illegal narcotics without a valid permit.
