Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, also known as Baaluuse, a 33-year-old man suspected of killing General Constable Seth Oppong Damoah at Karimenga on the Bolgatanga–Tamale Highway in December of last year, was apprehended following a coordinated operation by members of the National Police Intelligence Directorate (NPID) in Accra and their counterparts in the Upper East Region.
Last Monday, the suspect was taken into custody at his hiding place in the Bolgatanga district of Polego.
The suspect and his unarrested accomplices were on the police wanted list for allegedly attacking officers at the Karimenga police barrier, where G/Const. Damoah was shot dead and G/Cpl. Nyanku Charles and G/Cpl. Abu Moro were wounded, according to a police report that was made available to Graphic Online.
“The suspect has been identified as a warrior for one of the feuding factions in the Bawku conflict. A brief search on three mobile phones taken from him suggest that suspect and others at large have participated actively in the protracted Bawku conflict and has also killed a lot of people.
“Further search on his phones also revealed that suspect belongs to a WhatsApp group called Trusted Friends with the image of Alhaji Seidu Abagri a rival chief of the Bawku chieftaincy dispute as their profile picture. A group mainly patronised by Moshies and Mamprusis,” the statement said.
According to the report, the suspect was captured on camera showing several AK-47 assault rifles in a sack together with handguns at what was thought to be a Bawku site.
It said that he was heard asking for more weapons and ammunition so that the Mamprusis might defeat the Kusaasis in the ongoing battle.
“Information available also indicates that suspect and one Mark at large are behind the importation of weapons and ammunitions to Bawku.”
“Information further indicates that on 29/12/2025 suspect and his accomplices at large planned and launched attack on the police performing their lawful duty at the Karimenga barrier. That suspect went into hiding until the police traced him to his hideout and apprehended him,” the statement said.
Gen. Const. Damoah was shot and murdered at Karimenga on the Bolgatanga–Tamale Highway at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
The assault resulted in a temporary security retreat along the route and injured two additional police officers.
The incident happened when a bus on the highway was attacked by gunmen. According to sources, after stopping the original attack, police officers reacted to a distress call.
After escaping into the jungle, the gunmen allegedly came back and attacked the Karimenga Police checkpoint once more.
