Prosper Owusu, a third-year mathematics student at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), tragically perished in an accident that occurred during a university hall procession.

Prosper Owusu and a number of other students from the Opoku Ware II Hall were reportedly taking part in various activities throughout the hall on Friday, August 25, 2023, when the event happened.

Owusu was leading a ritual close to an open flame as he served as the Opoku Ware Hall’s “chief priest” and was renowned for leading rites for the hall.

Prosper Owusu’s clothing tragically caught fire during the rite, resulting in serious injuries. His fellow classmates rushed to put out the fire, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to do so.

Owusu was quickly taken for emergency medical care to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Prosper Owusu passed away from his injuries on September 1, 2023, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, leaving the university community and his loved ones in shock and mourning.

The administration of the institution has started an investigation into the situation to ascertain what exactly happened to cause the unfortunate catastrophe.

All students have received a warning from the university to stop participating in any actions that could threaten their lives or the lives of others.
