The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has granted bail to Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Abubakar Yakubu, the party’s Sunyani East Communications Officer.

Baba Amando was detained due to allegations of false publication, while Abronye DC was reportedly held in relation to alleged threats against a presiding judge at the Adenta Circuit Court.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, urged the police to use professionalism and caution when performing their jobs in an interview with reporters in Accra on Monday, April 13.

Speaking to the media as well, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye denounced the arrests, characterising them as a deliberate effort by the government to deflect criticism from what he saw as its subpar performance.

He stated that unmet pledges, such as passing the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, addressing unemployment, lowering the cost of doing business at the ports, and carrying out the ORAL agenda, are putting increasing pressure on the administration.

He said that these difficulties have resulted in what he called the persecution of opposition party members.
