“The elephant continues to be on the march,” President Akufo-Addo said in response to the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) victory in the Kumawu by-election.
He said that the victory of Ernest Yaw Anim, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, was proof of the success of his elephant party.
21,527 legitimate votes were cast, according to certified findings from the Electoral Commission (EC), which oversaw the by-election. Anim (NPP) received 15,264 of those votes, or 70.91 percent of the total.
Kwasi Amankwah, a parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the major opposition party, received 3,723 votes, or 17.29 percent of the total, while independent candidates Kwaku Duah One and Kwaku Duah Two received 2,478 and 62 votes, respectively.
On May 24, President Nana Akufo-Addo praised the people of Kumawu for holding a peaceful, trustworthy, and transparent by-election in a message posted on his Facebook page.
He emphasized that the victorious elections had given Ghana’s democracy yet another significant boost.
“I also want to extend my congratulations to the NPP, NDC, and the two independent candidates for their part in this successful conclusion. I also applaud the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission for continuing to hold the Fourth Republic’s best elections, the President said.
