President Akufo-Addo is promoting greater accountability and openness in the judiciary and emphasizing the need for public trust for Ghana’s democracy to work effectively.
The President declared that in order to increase public trust in the legal system, judges must uphold the greatest standards of behavior.
President Akufo-Addo urged the judges to execute justice impartially and without bias during a ceremony at the Jubilee House, where he also administered the judicial oath, the oath of secrecy, and the oath of loyalty.
He emphasized how crucial it is to defend citizens’ rights and uphold judges’ pledge to behave impartially.
“The judiciary should be free from any form of external influence or interference, whether political, economic, or social. Only by preserving this independence can we ensure that justice is administered impartially,” he said.
He emphasized the necessity of ongoing efforts to increase the judiciary’s accountability and transparency and noted that public trust is necessary for democracy to work effectively.
“It is therefore incumbent upon us to ensure that our judicial processes are open and transparent and that judges are held to the highest standards of conduct,” President Akufo-Addo said.
He also emphasized the necessity for creative ideas to deal with the judicial system’s backlog of cases.
“One of the key challenges that we face is the need to address the backlog of cases that continue to burden our courts. Justice delayed, as we already know, is justice denied.
“It is imperative that we find innovative solutions to expedite the resolution of cases to ensure that justice is delivered in a timely manner,” he reiterated
He called for efficient case management and the adoption of new technologies and practices to streamline judicial processes and ensure timely delivery of justice
