The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has increased the repainting of kerbs and road medians along critical corridors in the capital, with the work moving along slowly as part of measures to improve visibility and public safety.

The ongoing repainting had already covered kerbs and median blocks around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, and crews were working along the Avenor Junction-Kwame Nkrumah Interchange stretch, with sections within the Central Business District and around selected major intersections, which were part of the initial phase, finished.

Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the mayor of Accra, told the media that the initiative was a practical road safety measure meant to make road edges and median ends clearer for drivers, especially at night and during rainy conditions when faded kerbs and poorly defined medians can pose hazards.

He added that more areas will be covered as the exercise progressed and that the work was being done in stages to avoid disturbance to traffic flow while guaranteeing the safety of individuals working near moving vehicles.

The Mayor urged vehicles to slow down while approaching active construction zones, follow traffic directions, and be patient, emphasising the importance of public collaboration in protecting workers and maintaining the intervention’s safety advantages.

He warned cars and pedestrians to keep a safe distance from freshly painted kerbs and medians, saying that some completed parts had already been discoloured due to vehicle tyres coming into touch with wet paint.

He stated that the kerb and median repainting is part of a larger effort to improve the city’s appearance and boost routine maintenance measures that promote safer movement for both automobiles and pedestrians throughout the metropolis.
