Albert Kan Dapaah, the national security minister, has declined to provide information about the investigations carried out by his organization to a parliamentary committee looking into a recording that was leaked about a plot to oust the IGP.
The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) was asked to conduct investigations after the tape went viral, and Kan Dapaah was invited by the committee to discuss their findings. However, the National Security Minister stated during a hearing held in secret on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, that the NIB report is confidential and cannot be made public.
Speaking to the media following the sessions, Committee Chairman Samuel Atta Akyea said that former NPP Northern Regional Chairman Bugri Naabu had presented the full, unedited original audio tape.
The Abuakwa South MP added that witnesses will be cross-examined when the committee begins its closed-door hearings on October 3 since the indicted senior officers are expected to substantiate their allegations against the IGP.
However, the leaked recording on a plot to have him removed features two senior police officers making accusations against the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who has denied all of them.
The IGP testified before the Parliamentary special committee looking into the matter and said the allegations had hurt him and his family. He also questioned the need for the committee to summon him, adding that COP George Alex Mensah and Supt. George Asare had lied about him to cover up their shame.
