The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has cautioned that the government needs to take note of the recent events in Kenya, especially as the nation gets ready for a pivotal election on December 7.
He underlined that Kenya’s circumstances are comparable to Ghana’s, and he urged the administration, as well as Parliamentarians, to guarantee free, fair, and transparent elections.
He emphasized how important it is to not take anything for granted.
Speaker Alban Bagbin disclosed to the media over the weekend in Kumasi that he has made contact with important parties, such as the Chief Justice, traditional leaders, and the chairs of the National Commission for Civic Education and the Electoral Commission.
He disclosed his intentions to speak with President Akufo-Addo in order to guarantee a peaceful election process.
“The situation in Kenya is not too different from ours. We must take preemptive measures to safeguard Ghana’s democracy ahead of the 2024 elections.”
“We must do all we can to ensure that the right person that Ghanaians want to lead the country, leads the country,” he said.
“People sometimes take so many things for granted, including my colleagues in Parliament.”
“We all can bear witness that what happened in Kenya could happen in Ghana if we are not careful. We must do all we can to prevent that,” the Speaker Bagbin stated.
“We are not different from our brothers and sisters in Kenya. I will do all I can to ensure that nobody sees partisanship in my actions,” he urged.
He reaffirmed that his work is impartial and emphasized his dedication to making sure the next elections are held in a fair and peaceful manner.
