Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been granted GH¢100,000 bail pending trial by the Accra High Court.

The accused was granted bail with two legitimate sureties by the presiding judge, Bankole Thompson.

Abronye DC is required to submit his travel documents to the court’s registry, report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters once every two weeks, and refrain from leaving the jurisdiction without the court’s approval.

Godfred Yeboah Dame led Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s bail motion, which asked the court to grant the applicant bail until trial. The prosecution did not object to the application, Justice Srem-Sai, the Deputy Attorney-General, told the court.

Abronye DC was placed under the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on May 13 by the Accra Circuit Court.

The accused, according to the prosecution, allegedly posted a video online that made disparaging comments about a Circuit Court judge, saying that the judge was “always presiding over political cases” and that her decisions were “wrong and full of grammatical errors.”

The prosecution claims that he went so far as to declare, “You are not a judge but rather a politician who has covered your hair with a sack claiming you are a judge,” which was meant to agitate the public against the court and the judge.

The alleged outburst came after a preacher made a social media remark regarding the Vice President, a case that is presently pending in court.

Abronye DC is charged with one count of publishing false information and one count of engaging in offensive behaviour that could lead to a disturbance of the peace. The Circuit Court denied a previous bail request.
