The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the people of Asanteman joined prominent dignitaries, including former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Second Lady Hajia Samira Bawumia, to commemorate the one-week passing of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

In addition to thousands of mourners who came to pay their respects to the late Asantehemaa, the solemn traditional ritual brought together religious leaders, government officials, royals, and chiefs.

In an homage, Bawumia conveyed the Asantehemaa’s departure and condoled with Otumfuo II, the royal family, and the Asante Kingdom as a whole.

“Hajia Samira and I joined the Asantehene and Asanteman for the one-week observation of the passing of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III at the Manhyia Palace. May Nanahemaa have a peaceful rest with her ancestors,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

As the Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was honored for her decades of devoted service before her death earlier this month.

She was renowned for her leadership, insight, and significant contribution to the preservation of Ashanti customs and culture.

Her departure signifies the end of an era and has been seen as a significant loss for Ghana and the Ashanti Kingdom.

According to Asante tradition, the final funeral ceremony is preceded by a series of customary rites after the one-week observation.

When the formal burial and funeral plans are revealed, thousands are anticipated to gather at Manhyia Palace once more.
