Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has personally donated Ghc 160,000 to help those affected by the leak from the Akosombo dam.

The leakage has caused the displacement of several communities in eight districts, predominantly in the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra Regions.

On Wednesday, October 17, 2023, Dr. Bawumia made the donation while touring some of the Volta Region’s affected areas.

The afflicted persons have been relocated to 20 holding centers by the government, in coordination with the National crisis Management Organization (NADMO), and an Inter-Ministerial Committee established to oversee the crisis. They have also been given emergency relief supplies.

Dr. Bawumia’s gift is intended to supplement the victims’ assistance from the government.

“There is such pain in the eyes of our mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers who are seated here. The events that have occurred have completely upended their lives. In order to help the afflicted people receive relief and rebuild their way of life, the government will do everything in its power, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed.
