Former Energy Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko has pledged to work toward rebuilding the party and preparing it for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections if elected National Chairman.

Mr Agyarko made the commitment ahead of the NPP’s National Officers’ Election scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The NPP National Chairmanship race features John Boadu, Sammy Crabbe, Paul Afoko and Boakye Agyarko. Balloting conducted by the party placed John Boadu first, Sammy Crabbe second, Paul Afoko third and Boakye Agyarko fourth on the ballot paper.

Agyarko Outlines Vision for NPP

Addressing NPP supporters and delegates, Mr Agyarko said his nationwide engagements had given him an understanding of the concerns and expectations of party members.

He said his campaign was focused on party unity, organisational strengthening and collective efforts ahead of the 2028 elections.

According to Mr Agyarko, his objective includes working toward the election of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as President of Ghana and securing a parliamentary majority for the NPP in the 2028 general election.

The former Energy Minister also pledged to work toward uniting members of the party, improving the credibility of the membership register, providing audited accounts and reconciling members who have become aggrieved.

NPP National Chairman Election

Mr Agyarko filed his nomination for the National Chairmanship position on August 26, 2026. The election is part of the NPP’s broader reorganisation as the party prepares for the next presidential and parliamentary elections.

The party is expected to elect national officers including the National Chairman, three Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Treasurer, National Youth Organiser and National Nasara Organiser. Current reports indicate that 7,121 delegates are expected to participate in the October 3 election.

Polls and Studies on the NPP Chairmanship Race

Various surveys and studies have produced different findings about the NPP National Chairmanship contest.

A survey cited by the Agyarko campaign, conducted by the Ghana Watch Initiative International (GWII), reportedly placed Mr Agyarko ahead of the other candidates. The figures cited in the campaign’s account were 51.81% for Agyarko, 32.32% for John Boadu, 12.39% for Paul Afoko and 3.48% for Sammy Crabbe.

A separate study by University of Ghana lecturers also reported a higher preference for Mr Agyarko among its respondents when they were asked which candidate best matched characteristics considered important for the National Chairman role. GNA reported figures of 60.7% for Agyarko, 33.5% for John Boadu and 5.9% for Paul Afoko in that study.

These findings are survey results rather than election results, and they reflect the populations and methodologies used by the respective researchers.

More recently, a Global InfoAnalytics poll reported on September 30, 2026, placed John Boadu ahead of Boakye Agyarko in its measurement of the chairmanship race, illustrating that polling results have differed.
