Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has spoken about what she describes as a changing trend in Nigeria’s dating scene, particularly the growing interest of younger men in older women.
The 41-year-old actress made the observation during a recent episode of her podcast, published on her YouTube channel, where she discussed changing attitudes toward age and relationships.
According to Adegbite, society has traditionally placed pressure on women to step away from the dating scene after reaching a certain age. However, she believes that attitude is gradually changing as younger men increasingly express interest in older women.
Damilola Adegbite on Older Women and Dating
Adegbite used the biblical reference to the “stone which the builders rejected” becoming the cornerstone to describe what she sees as a shift in perceptions of older women.
She suggested that women who were previously overlooked in the dating market are now being viewed by some younger men as highly desirable partners.
The actress said younger men are becoming more direct about their attraction to women in their late 30s and early 40s.
She explained that a younger man could meet a woman aged 38, 40 or 42 and openly tell her that he is interested in her, even when she may be surprised by the attention.
Actress Highlights Confidence in Modern Dating
According to Adegbite, the confidence displayed by some younger men when approaching older women is also part of what makes the trend interesting.
She noted that women who were once made to feel that their dating opportunities declined with age are increasingly encountering a different experience.
Adegbite’s comments have sparked conversation about age-gap relationships, dating trends in Nigeria, older women dating younger men and changing relationship preferences among Nigerians.
Her remarks form part of a broader discussion about how perceptions of age, attractiveness and relationships continue to evolve within modern Nigerian society.
