The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced scheduled power outages in parts of eastern Accra and Tema as the power distributor undertakes emergency maintenance and repair works.

The planned electricity interruptions will take place from Monday, October 5 to Thursday, October 8, 2026, as ECG engineers work to address faults affecting its distribution network.

According to ECG, the maintenance exercise follows multiple technical faults that have recently disrupted power supply in parts of Accra and Tema.

ECG Power Outage Schedule for Accra and Tema

The Electricity Company of Ghana said the maintenance works are expected to take place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the affected days.

However, ECG noted that the exact outage periods may vary depending on the location and the nature of the maintenance work required.

The temporary interruptions are intended to allow engineers to carry out urgent repairs, system upgrades and other technical interventions aimed at improving the reliability of Ghana’s electricity distribution network.

ECG has apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the scheduled power outages in Accra and Tema.

Why ECG Is Undertaking the Maintenance Works

The power distributor explained that the exercise forms part of ongoing planned and emergency maintenance operations designed to address faults and strengthen electricity distribution infrastructure.

The maintenance programme is expected to help reduce unexpected power interruptions and improve the reliability of electricity supply to homes, businesses and other customers.

The continued growth in electricity demand across Ghana has also placed additional pressure on transmission and distribution infrastructure, making regular maintenance and network upgrades essential.

Recent transformer upgrades and electricity network improvement projects are among the measures being undertaken to strengthen power supply and reduce unplanned outages.

New Power Generation Projects

The planned ECG maintenance comes as Ghana continues to pursue additional investments in electricity generation and infrastructure.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans for a 1,200-megawatt gas-fired power plant, which is expected to significantly increase the country’s power generation capacity.

The project is part of broader efforts to expand Ghana’s energy infrastructure and meet growing electricity demand.

Businesses Could Be Affected by ECG Outages

The daytime maintenance schedule could affect businesses and commercial establishments that depend heavily on electricity during working hours.

Residents and businesses in the affected communities have therefore been advised to take note of the ECG power outage schedule from October 5 to 8 and make the necessary preparations.

ECG said detailed schedules showing the specific communities and areas affected by the planned maintenance have been provided in the attached notice.

Customers are encouraged to check the schedule carefully to determine whether their communities will experience an interruption in electricity supply.
