In a drive to increase supply reliability starting on May 6, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has promised Ashanti Region consumers that it will move quickly to rebuild transformers and fix recent power fluctuations.
As part of a larger rollout of 300 new distribution transformers, the intervention targets communities where low voltage is caused by overloaded equipment.
Benjamin Obeng Antwi, ECG’s Ashanti West Region Public Relations Officer, told Citi News that the business is investing more than GH¢1 billion to improve the region’s power supply.
He stated that the improvements are intended to give businesses and residents who are impacted by erratic electricity supply instant relief.
“We want to assure our cherished customers that there shouldn’t be any panic, as we rightly said,, and that the ECG is undertaking this massive upgrade to satisfy our customers and this is not the only project that we are doing.”
“If you listened to the [Energy] minister’s press conference last week, he mentioned that government is turning its focus to the Ashanti region. Even in our managing director’s press conference, ECG is investing some GH¢1.11 billion in the Ashanti region.”
“What we are doing is we are upgrading the conductors over there from 265 to 400 megawatts.”
The ECG said the larger expenditure is part of continuous efforts to improve network capacity and provide steady energy supply throughout the Ashanti Region.
