Ghana’s Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Science and Technology has held a meeting with the African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) to strengthen collaboration and advance the country’s climate change agenda.
The AGNES delegation, led by Dr. George Wamukoya, provided an update on the National Climate Action Monitoring Tool, an initiative designed to track and document climate-related activities across Ghana.
The monitoring platform will cover climate actions undertaken by both the Parliament and the Executive, relying on open, accessible and reliable data to support effective oversight and policymaking.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo, together with other members, commended AGNES for developing the tool. They noted that it would help Parliament monitor climate initiatives being implemented across various sectors of the economy.
The Committee also highlighted the importance of the platform in promoting evidence-based climate discussions, strengthening parliamentary oversight and improving access to reliable information on environmental and climate change issues.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to Ghana’s efforts to address climate change, environmental sustainability and climate policy development while ensuring greater accountability in the implementation of climate-related programmes.
