Former President John Mahama has urged those in positions of authority to allow the June 4 events to motivate them to toil diligently for a good future for Ghana.
The former president expressed sadness that lives were lost in the pursuit of justice and accountability in a Facebook post on Sunday, June 4, 2023.
“On this day forty-four years ago, a blaze engulfed our country, set off by a struggle for justice and responsibility. Sadly, there were casualties.
“We pay tribute to everyone whose life was lost in the tragic events of June 4, 1979. Our current democracy and system of constitutional government are a result of their sacrifices, M. Mahama said.
The ideas of accountability and probity were born on June 4, he said. The events of that rebellion should motivate those of us in leadership roles to strive selflessly and diligently to improve Ghana’s future and honor the legacy of our forebears.
Let’s remember this significant day by treating it with the utmost respect and gratitude.
