The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the public that vaping and shisha are not safe substitutes for smoking, stressing that the harm that tobacco causes to the lungs is not mitigated by tastes like fruit, mint, or candy.

“It may taste sweet, but your lungs can’t taste the difference,” the FDA said in a caution to the public.

“Fruit flavour. Mint flavour. Candy flavour. It doesn’t cancel out the harm,” it added.

“Protecting children and young people from exposure to tobacco and nicotine products remains a major public health priority,” the FDA stated.

“Public cooperation and timely reporting of such activities greatly support enforcement efforts.”

To support enquiries and regulatory action, the Authority urged the public to provide detailed information, including locations, to the relevant authorities.

Shisha and vaping are not safe substitutes for smoking, the FDA reaffirmed.
