A major fire outbreak at Srodae in the New Juaben North Municipality has caused extensive damage to a one-storey building used for both commercial and residential purposes.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2026, after the New Juaben North Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at approximately 11:02 p.m. reporting the fire.
Firefighters Respond Quickly to Srodae Fire
A 10-member firefighting team led by SO II Nartey was immediately dispatched to the scene. The team arrived at about 11:15 p.m. and found the building completely engulfed in flames, with the fire still actively burning.
Firefighters quickly began operations to contain the blaze. The fire was brought under control at approximately 1:23 a.m., before being completely extinguished at 3:04 a.m.
The swift response by the firefighting crew prevented the flames from spreading to nearby properties, helping to limit the overall impact of the Srodae fire outbreak.
Extensive Property Damage Recorded
The fire caused significant damage to a wide range of items and property within the building.
Items affected included personal care products, electrical cables, fascia boards, lighting equipment, personal belongings, jewellery, paints, drinks, air conditioners, mobile phones and accessories, clothing, footwear and roofing sheets.
The intensity of the blaze also resulted in the complete collapse of the first floor, while sections of the ground floor suffered partial structural collapse.
Building Access Restricted After Fire
Authorities have cordoned off the affected building following the incident.
The restriction is intended to prevent unauthorised access and protect the public from potential danger due to the building’s compromised structural condition.
The damage has raised concerns about the safety of the structure, particularly following the collapse of portions of the building during the New Juaben North fire incident.
Investigation Into Cause of Fire Underway
Preliminary investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway.
Authorities are expected to establish what triggered the blaze and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Srodae fire outbreak serves as another reminder of the importance of fire safety measures, early detection and prompt emergency response to prevent the spread of fires and reduce property losses.
