“But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their source of hope and confidence.” Jeremiah 17:7.
In the amplified Bible, the meaning and other words used for the word “blessed” are “happy”, “fortunate”, “prosperous”, and “someone to be envied” Now, who and what do we trust in? What gives us hope and who is our source of confidence? Man cannot be genuinely prosperous, happy and feel blessed just because he’s attained a certain status, he’s endowed with wealth, and has all the connections.
A simple check with those who are very rich would confirm this. Many of what the ungodly, but supposedly rich, portray publicly, are just for the cameras.
I am a happy person today, not because I attained full professorship at a relatively younger age, and have some small cash, fame, and networks. It is because God is my source of comfort, trust, blessing, hope and confidence. Notice how there’s calm in the body and peace of mind, anytime we decide to put our hope, trust and confidence in God. Rightly so, we must put our, trust, hope and confidence in God. Why? Because He’s God. He created everything including the things we wrongfully put our trust in. Why should we trust human beings and other things created and distrust the creator and expect to be happy and blessed? Nothing brings genuine sufficiency apart from God. Without God, every sense and source of sufficiency, hope, trust, and confidence, is very fake and temporary.
It is worth emphasizing that, we may have all the cash, fame, networks and influence, but these cannot bring genuine joy, happiness and a sense of sufficiency. It is only God, who gives us sufficiency. That’s why the Akans call Him “Onyame”…, s3 wo nya no a, na w’amee, to wit, if you have God, you have sufficiency. An investigation into the lives of some so-called celebrities and wealthy people, who trust more in what they have and not necessarily God, would point to how they portray happiness publicly and cry miserably in their closets. They are strictly speaking, not blessed; they are strictly speaking not prosperous and happy.
To be happy, fortunate, propsoerous and to feel genuinely blessed, we must trust God and make Him the source of our hope and confidence. Let us do this even if we have it all, and let us do this even if we lack, and it would be well with our soul and with our bodies. Amen.
