Motorists in Ghana could face higher fuel prices at the pumps from Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following projections by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC).
According to COPEC’s latest assessment, the prices of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are expected to record marginal increases during the next petroleum pricing window.
The projected increase is largely linked to movements in international refined petroleum product prices, despite a recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar.
Petrol Price in Ghana Expected to Increase
COPEC’s analysis shows that international crude oil prices recorded a slight decline during the current pricing window, falling from $90.41 per barrel to $89.30 per barrel.
At the same time, the Ghana cedi strengthened against the US dollar. The average interbank exchange rate improved from GH¢11.800 to the US dollar at the beginning of the pricing window to GH¢11.5166 at the close.
This represents an appreciation of approximately 2.39%.
Despite the stronger cedi and lower crude oil prices, COPEC estimates that changes in the Free-On-Board (FOB) prices of refined petroleum products could result in higher fuel prices at Ghanaian filling stations.
COPEC projects that petrol could sell at approximately GH¢16.21 per litre from September 1.
The projected price represents an estimated 5% increase from the current average pump price of GH¢15.43 per litre.
If oil marketing companies adjust their prices in line with prevailing market conditions, motorists could therefore pay more for petrol from the beginning of September.
Diesel Price Could Rise to GH¢17.61
The price of diesel in Ghana is also expected to increase during the next pricing window.
COPEC estimates that diesel could sell for approximately GH¢17.61 per litre, compared with the current average pump price of GH¢17.17 per litre.
The projected figure represents an estimated 2.58% increase.
The adjustment could increase transportation and operating costs for motorists, commercial drivers and businesses that rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
LPG Price in Ghana Also Expected to Increase
Consumers who use Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) could also see a marginal increase in the coming pricing window.
COPEC projects that LPG could sell at approximately GH¢14.19 per kilogramme.
The expected adjustment means households and businesses using LPG may also have to spend more on cooking and other activities that depend on the fuel.
Ghana Fuel Prices: What Consumers Should Expect
The latest COPEC projection suggests that petrol, diesel and LPG prices in Ghana could all record increases from September 1, 2026.
Although the Ghana cedi has recently gained value against the US dollar and global crude oil prices have edged lower, the pricing of refined petroleum products remains influenced by international market conditions.
Motorists and consumers are therefore advised to monitor announcements from oil marketing companies and COPEC as the new fuel prices take effect.
The projected changes could have wider implications for transport fares, household expenses, business operating costs and the general cost of living in Ghana.
