A widely circulated story that claimed that 60% of applicants in the current military recruitment exercise tested positive for HIV has been publicly refuted by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The GAF Department of Public Relations called the article “fake news” in a press release on Sunday, January 25, 2026, and advised the public to ignore the information in its entirety.

The Acting Director General of Public Relations, Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, signed the statement, which made it clear that the medical screening procedure for the 2025–2026 recruitment cycle is currently ongoing.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state categorically that the publication is FAKE NEWS and should be ignored by all. The medical process is ongoing and no results have been released or declared as at now,” the statement said.

Concerned about the “mischievous” nature of the tale, the military high command stated that attempts are being made to identify the people who created and disseminated the false material.

Additionally, the GAF strongly advised media professionals, content producers, and social media influencers (bloggers and vloggers) to exercise caution and confirm their information with reliable sources before publishing.
