The 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) in New York featured a bilateral meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and her Sierra Leonean counterpart, Hon. Dr. Isata Mahoi.

The conversations centered on exchanging best practices and fostering mutual cooperation. Among the main topics discussed were strengthening women’s ability to take on leadership roles, including standing for office, working closely with female lawmakers, and ensuring that current laws were applied.

The establishment of safe homes and shelters for victims of abuse, as well as the development of a network of female Ministers of Gender, were also discussed.

At the end of the discussion, both ministers promised to start the process of creating a network of gender ministers in the ECOWAS area.

By exchanging best practices and cooperating, this program seeks to address Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) as a whole.
