President John Mahama has announced the formation of three international panels to enhance the global fight for reparatory justice, after the United Nations’ acknowledgement of the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity.

Speaking to attendees at a High-Level Consultative Conference on Reparatory Justice in Accra, the President made the announcement.

He states that the initiative is a significant step in the ongoing global efforts to ensure that the descendants of Africans who were enslaved receive justice, recognition, and compensation.

The three organisations are the Global Legal Panel on Reparatory Justice, the Expert Panel on the Restitution of Cultural Artefacts, and the Global Advisory Panel on Reparatory Justice.

According to President Mahama, the panels will contribute to the next stage of global advocacy and action on reparatory justice.
