The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched investigations into an alleged sexual assault involving a student of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School in the Upper East Region.
According to the GES, the alleged incident involves two school watchmen who have since been arrested and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that the student involved has special needs and was receiving medication. On the day of the reported incident, the student allegedly suffered a relapse and required medical attention. It was during this period that the alleged sexual assault reportedly occurred.
As part of the immediate response, the two watchmen have been interdicted by the Ghana Education Service while investigations continue.
The GES said the outcome of the investigations will determine the appropriate disciplinary measures to be taken in line with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.
The Education Service has also reminded all staff of their responsibility to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students under their care.
GES stressed that it will not tolerate any behaviour that puts students at risk or compromises their welfare and security.
The Service has assured parents, guardians and the general public that the alleged sexual assault case at Bolgatanga Girls SHS is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
