Serbia and Ghana have reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen bilateral ties for the benefit of both countries’ citizens.
The pledge was made during a bilateral discussion between His Excellency Marko Đurić, the Serbian equivalent of Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), who is now on a three-day official visit to Ghana, and MP. The meeting took place on July 17, 2025.
The economy, trade, defense, agriculture, education, and culture were the main topics of their conversation.
Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) acknowledged during the meeting the long-standing historical ties between Ghana and Serbia, which go back to the time of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY).
He also recalled the important roles played by President Josef Broz Tito and Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the formation of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which aims to promote international peace and security through the non-alignment policy.
According to the Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa, the two nations’ strong political cooperation must be used as leverage to forge solid trade ties.

He encouraged Serbian investors to find opportunities for collaboration in different sectors of both economies by partnering with their Ghanaian counterparts and taking advantage of Ghana’s stable political and business-friendly climate.
He declared that Ghana is open to accepting Serbian students for exchange programs and acknowledged the scholarships given to Ghanaian students to study at Serbian universities.
In addition, he praised Serbia for its cooperation with Ghana in the fields of education, agriculture, maritime, and defense. He called for increased cooperation through commerce, investment, shared knowledge, technology, sports, tourism, culture, and the creative arts, among other areas.
His Excellency Marko Đurić acknowledged the necessity for increased cooperation and concurred that the two nations’ development paths are quite comparable.
According to him, Serbia upholds the UN Charter’s tenets and the good neighbor policy because it recognizes that stability is a necessary condition for progress.
His Excellency Đurić also praised Ghana for advancing its economy by implementing the 24-Hour Economy Policy.
He promised that his nation will look into forging a labor mobility agreement with Ghana and offer more scholarships to Ghanaian pupils.
