The Ministry of Transport has signed a contract with Vision Consult, in partnership with KPMG, to conduct a feasibility study into the proposed Coastal Water Transport Service in Ghana.
The six-month study will assess the viability of establishing a coastal water transportation route connecting Keta in the Volta Region to Axim in the Western Region.
Under the agreement, Vision Consult and KPMG will undertake comprehensive assessments of the proposed project and submit their findings and recommendations to the Government.
The feasibility study will examine the potential of the coastal transport route and provide critical information to support Government’s decision on whether the project is economically and operationally viable.
If approved, the proposed Keta-Axim coastal water transport service could expand Ghana’s transportation network, improve mobility along the coastline and provide an alternative means of transport for passengers and businesses.
The initiative forms part of efforts to explore alternative transportation solutions and strengthen Ghana’s coastal connectivity through improved water transport infrastructure.
The Government is expected to rely on the outcome of the study to determine the next steps for the development and implementation of the proposed coastal water transport service.
