Together with other member states, Ghana celebrated the 73rd Commonwealth Day on Monday, March 10, 2025, with the theme “Together We Thrive.”

Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah stressed the value of international cooperation among the 2.7 billion people living in the 56 Commonwealth countries during a flag-raising ceremony held in the State House’s forecourt.

“In our interconnected world, saddled with the consequences of climate change, cyber threats, violent extremism, terrorism, and antimicrobial resistance, the surest pathway to sustainable development is sincere cooperation,” he stated.

Important dignitaries attended the occasion, including British High Commissioner to Ghana H.E. Harriet Thompson, who represented His Majesty King Charles III, and Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Akweley Ocloo.

Along with diplomats, traditional leaders, security guards, and students who attended, Dr. Boamah also spoke with representatives of the departing Commonwealth Secretary-General, Baroness Patricia Scotland.

He reaffirmed the necessity of national sovereignty while promoting collective action for global growth.

“Sovereignty is supreme, but let us all work together for our common good,” he concluded.
