The Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national football team, are still ranked 14th on the African continent, but they have risen one spot to 75th in the most recent FIFA World Rankings.
The FIFA rankings of Ghana in Africa have not changed despite the little improvement in the global table, as the Black Stars continue to rehabilitate under their new technical manager.
They haven’t performed well enough recently to drastically change their continental status, while having inconsistent success in competitive matches and international friendlies.
Morocco remains at the top of the African scene, ranking eleventh globally. To complete the top six in Africa, they are followed by Senegal (18th), Egypt (35th), Côte d’Ivoire (36th), Algeria (38th), and the Ivory Coast (44th).
The Black Stars’ modest improvement gives them hope for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament.
But if Ghana wants to move up the continental and international rankings, pundits emphasize that tactical cohesiveness, squad depth, and consistency will be essential.
In October, Ghana will start its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign against the Comoros and the Central African Republic. The Black Stars will face fierce competition from their African counterparts.
With 19 points from eight games, Ghana continues to lead Group I, while Madagascar is in second place with 16 points.
As Ghana looks to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, coach Otto Addo is hoping for even more progress when the team returns in October for their final two group matches against Comoros and the Central African Republic on matchdays nine and ten.
