Ten stolen cars have been recovered by the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department.

Eight Toyota RAV4s and two Toyota CH-Rs that were reported stolen from the Netherlands and traced to Ghana are among the vehicles.

The vehicles were collected in succession between September 15 and 17, 2025, in different districts of Accra, such as Kantamanto, Nima, and Cantonments, according to Commission of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General, Criminal Investigations Department (CID), who was speaking at a media briefing in Accra.

According to COP Donkor, the CID has stepped up its efforts to combat the escalating problem of transnational vehicle crime. He added that car theft not only costs victims money but also “tarnishes Ghana’s International reputation and fuels other organized criminal activities.”

She commended the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, international partners, and the embassies of the impacted nations for their cooperation in making it a success.

According to COP Donkor, the police recently tracked and recovered stolen cars that were smuggled to Ghana in cooperation with the Netherlands Embassy and Digitpol, a security firm that worked closely with the police in the Netherlands.

“Prospective buyers are strongly advised to demand proof of ownership from the country of origin. Vehicles can also be verified with INTERPOL Accra before finalising any purchase,”   the CID Boss added, warning the public to exercise caution when buying automobiles.
