An e-VAT system will be implemented by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to increase voluntary compliance and enforce tax regulations.

Recent test purchases in different areas of Accra by the GRA’s Enforcement Unit revealed that some businesses were selectively producing VAT receipts or not issuing any at all.

Representatives of these businesses were therefore detained, and they will now be the subject of additional inquiry and legal action.

The e-VAT system will enable officials to monitor enterprises’ actions in real-time from their offices, doing away with the necessity for field visits, according to Joseph Annan, the Area Enforcement Manager of GRA in charge of Accra Central.

He highlighted that paying taxes is not only a civic duty, but also a way for taxpayers to support the growth of the nation.

Annan thanked the general public for their assistance and urged them to keep assisting the GRA in raising the money required for development. To make sure that all tax laws are being followed to the letter, the GRA will continue to make surprise visits.
