Trading activity on the Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM) reached GH¢1.10353 billion on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, with Treasury bills dominating investor activity as demand for government securities continued to outpace interest in corporate bonds and older sovereign debt instruments.

According to the official GFIM trading report, the market recorded a total of 2,619 transactions worth GH¢1.10353 billion during the trading session.

Treasury Bills Account for Majority of Market Turnover

Treasury bills remained the preferred investment option, generating GH¢671.78 million in trading value across 2,576 transactions.

The report showed that Treasury bills contributed 60.88% of total market turnover while accounting for an overwhelming 98.36% of all trades, underscoring the strong investor preference for short-term government securities in Ghana’s fixed-income market.

The continued dominance of Treasury bills reflects high liquidity and sustained confidence in short-term debt instruments amid evolving market conditions.

DDEP Bonds Rank Second in Trading Activity

Bonds issued under Ghana’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) emerged as the second most actively traded asset class on the Ghana Fixed Income Market.

The securities recorded GH¢326.61 million in trading value from just 23 transactions, significantly lower in trade volume than Treasury bills but representing the second-largest share of market activity.

The latest GFIM data highlights the ongoing investor focus on Treasury bills, government bonds, and other low-risk fixed-income investments as Ghana’s financial markets continue to evolve.
