A 37-year-old man, identified as Tibini Atta, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to defiling an 11-year-old girl at Digangan, a farming community in the Kpandai District of Ghana’s Northern Region.
According to the Northern Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Police said the victim had accompanied the suspect to a farm, where the alleged sexual assault occurred.
The young girl reportedly sustained injuries during the incident and was subsequently taken to the Kpandai District Hospital for medical attention.
The case was reported to the Kpandai Police at about 2:55 p.m. on the same day by the victim’s uncle, who is a farmer.
Following her initial treatment at the Kpandai District Hospital, medical personnel informed police investigators that the victim needed further specialist care. She was therefore referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for additional medical treatment because of the nature of her injuries.
Suspect Pleads Guilty in Tamale Court
Tibini Atta appeared before the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale on Friday, September 25, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court subsequently convicted him and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Meanwhile, officers from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tamale have visited the victim at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to monitor her condition and provide the necessary support.
The police said the girl is responding to treatment and remains under close medical observation.
The Northern Regional Police Command added that it will continue working with the hospital and other relevant stakeholders to support the victim’s recovery as investigations and follow-up processes continue.
