Residents across parts of Greater Accra and the Eastern Region will experience water supply interruptions and reduced water pressure from Thursday, August 6, to Saturday, August 8, as Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) carries out major maintenance works on the Kpong-Tema water transmission pipelines.
The planned maintenance is aimed at improving the reliability, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of water supply to thousands of households and businesses served by the Kpong Water Supply System.
Ghana Water to Replace Damaged Kpong-Tema Pipelines
According to Ghana Water Ltd, the maintenance exercise will involve isolating and replacing weakened sections of the 21-inch and 42-inch transmission pipelines between Kpong and Tema.
Routine engineering inspections identified more than 300 metres of deteriorated pipeline that require immediate replacement to prevent major pipe bursts, reduce water losses, and improve the delivery of clean and reliable water.
To safely complete the project, the Kpong Water Treatment Plant will be temporarily shut down while engineers replace five sections of the transmission pipelines.

Customers supplied by the Kpong Water System should expect temporary water shortages or low water pressure throughout the three-day maintenance period.

Residents and businesses in these locations are encouraged to prepare ahead of the scheduled maintenance.
Ghana Water Advises Residents to Store Water
Ghana Water Ltd urged customers in the affected areas to store enough water before the maintenance begins and use available supplies responsibly during the interruption.
The company also advised hospitals, healthcare facilities, schools, and other essential service providers to activate contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Where possible, water tankers will be deployed to provide emergency water supply to selected critical institutions during the maintenance period.
Maintenance Expected to Improve Water Supply Reliability
GWL assured the public that its engineers and technical teams will work around the clock to complete the pipeline replacement on schedule and restore normal water supply as quickly as possible.
The company said replacing the aging infrastructure will help reduce pipeline bursts, minimize emergency shutdowns, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the long-term reliability of water supply across Tema, eastern Greater Accra, and surrounding communities.
Ghana Water Ltd added that it will continue providing regular updates on the maintenance works through its official communication channels and will announce when normal water supply has been fully restored.
