The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has welcomed the government’s decision to absorb GH¢2 on every litre of diesel, describing the move as a major relief for consumers and businesses amid rising fuel costs in Ghana.
Chief Executive Officer of COMAC, Riverson Oppong, confirmed that oil marketing companies have already started implementing the diesel price reduction at fuel stations nationwide following the government’s directive.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Top Story, Mr. Oppong said the intervention comes at a critical time for the petroleum industry, helping to reduce the financial burden on motorists, transport operators, businesses, and stakeholders in Ghana’s downstream oil sector.
According to him, the government’s support will cushion both consumers and operators, while promoting stability in the local fuel market.
“This wave that has come is indeed here to cushion consumers and operators within the sector,” Mr. Oppong stated.
The GH¢2 diesel subsidy is expected to lower transportation and operational costs, providing relief to households and businesses that rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
