The democracy of Ghana is gravely threatened by corruption, as observed by Julius Malema of South Africa.

The President and Commander-in-Chief of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), speaking at a public dialogue organized in Accra by Ghanaian socialist pressure group AriseGhana on Tuesday, 23 January 2024, stated: “Corruption is a threat to Ghana’s democracy because it has ensured that Ghana does not pay its international debt.”

Because the current government disregarded its duty, the IMF and the World Bank dictate everything else to Ghana, making it impossible for Ghana to exercise self-determination.

“Corruption is a threat to a wonderful democracy anywhere because it’s eating on the moral fibre of a democratic dispensation.”

“We must never celebrate anyone who is corrupt or seek to defend the corrupt individuals irrespective of our political affiliation,” he said.

He believed the corruption of their ancestors will mostly affect the younger generation.

“It is you, the youth of Africa, that are going to inherit the debt, and you’ll not be able to develop your own country,” he reiterated

“If you value yourself, if you value the future of this continent, you must stand tall and unashamedly fight corruption wherever it raises its ugly head,” he consequently implored the youth.

“It doesn’t matter who speaks. Truth must always be spoken to authority. Who gets insulted doesn’t matter,” he declared.

“The truth doesn’t change whether you’re sitting, standing, or lying down. The truth is unchanging,” he continued.
