The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has stated that the present administration may not be able to construct all of the hospitals under the Agenda 111 project due to budgetary and practical restrictions.

In an interview with Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, April 22, the Minister stated that while the government remains committed to improving healthcare infrastructure, it must take a realistic approach to ongoing projects inherited from the previous administration led by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the scope of the Agenda 111 programme, combined with various levels of completion at the time of transition, makes it difficult to ensure full completion in a short period of time.

Mr Akandoh stated that, while some of the projects are progressed, others are still in the early stages and will require significant time and resources to finish.

“If we say that we will be able to complete all the Agenda 111 projects, which are over 100, within one year or even four years, it is a lie. Let’s be realistic and I started saying this even in opposition, and you heard me loud and clear that there was no way we were going to complete these 111 hospitals within the timeframe the president gave us.”

Under the Akufo-Addo administration, the Agenda 111 initiative was introduced as a flagship program designed to close important gaps in Ghana’s healthcare system.

The plan aimed to provide access to high-quality healthcare, especially in underserved areas, by building 111 hospitals in districts, regional capitals, and speciality sites.
