A Sinotruck (Howo) registered GS 3789-24 and a Nigerian passenger bus registered AAA 449 YN (Lagos) collided head-on at Abease on the Elubo-Takoradi Highway, prompting the Ghana National Fire Service to respond.

Appliance DPT 465 with a crew of five, led by ADO II Clement Arthur and accompanied by ADOI Issifu Dauda Kaku, was deployed at 1153 hours in response to a distress report.

When the team arrived at 11:59, they discovered one tipper truck occupant and five bus passengers stranded.

Three casualties had been saved by onlookers prior to the crew’s arrival. Four wounded were sent to Elubo Government Hospital following rescue operations.

While a tipper truck colleague passed away at the hospital, the bus driver perished on the spot. For preservation, the bodies were sent to the hospital mortuary.

According to preliminary findings, the bus driver veered into the oncoming truck’s lane in order to escape a pothole.

The crew cleared the path of debris, unplugged battery terminals, and cooled the hot engine compartment.
