The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has called on African youth to take the lead in transforming the continent’s economy through entrepreneurship, local production, and value addition.
Speaking at the Accra edition of the Loveworld Trade and Investment Forum held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Mr Gyamfi emphasised that Africa must focus on building a productive economy rather than depending heavily on imported goods and services.
“Africa is not the future. Africa is the now,” he declared, urging young Africans to recognise the continent’s economic potential and take advantage of emerging business opportunities.
GoldBod Promotes Ghana’s Gold Industry Reforms
Mr Gyamfi explained that the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board has strengthened Ghana’s control over its gold resources by introducing a more formal and compliant system for gold trading.
According to him, GoldBod is helping to address challenges associated with gold smuggling and informal gold exports by improving regulation and promoting transparency in the gold trading sector.
The reforms are expected to support Ghana’s gold industry, strengthen oversight of the precious minerals trade, and help the country derive greater economic benefits from its gold resources.

Sammy Gyamfi Encourages Youth to Explore Gold Trading Opportunities
The GoldBod CEO also encouraged young entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in Ghana’s formal gold trading industry, noting that participation does not necessarily require huge start-up capital.
He urged interested individuals to visit GoldBod offices for information, guidance, and assistance on how to enter the regulated gold trade.
Mr Gyamfi’s message highlights the importance of youth entrepreneurship, private sector development, and local value creation in Ghana’s broader economic transformation agenda.
He maintained that Africa’s economic progress will depend largely on the ability of its young population to create businesses, expand local production, generate employment, and add value to the continent’s natural resources.
