At the Tema and Takoradi ports, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has formally started 24-hour operations in response to orders from President John Dramani Mahama.

The goal of the complete implementation of the 24-hour operations is to increase Ghana’s marine trade’s efficiency.

Terminal 2, Transit, Reefer, and the Golden Jubilee Terminal are among the major terminals to which the port is presently expanding its 24-hour ship-side operations.

This was stated by Tema Port Director Mr. Tebon Zumah (Esq.) at a Thanksgiving Day and National Prayer function.

He was speaking on behalf of GPHA Director-General Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulon.

“While our ship-side operations have always run 24 hours, the directive challenges us to deepen this commitment by extending seamless services to shore handling and allied processes.” Mr. Zumah stated.

With terminals like transit, reefer, and Golden Jubilee now enabling round-the-clock deliveries, he added, the expanded 24-hour operations at Tema and Takoradi ports mark a significant milestone for GPHA. This development was anticipated to improve cargo handling, shorten turnaround times, and increase Ghana’s competitiveness as a maritime hub in West Africa.

He urged employees to use creative methods to help Ghana’s development agenda, especially in light of the president’s direction for a 24-hour economy.

As a demonstration of GPHA’s steadfast dedication to boosting national output, Mr. Zumah formally announced the Port of Tema to be open twenty-four hours a day.

He emphasized that the action demonstrated the authority’s willingness to assist Ghana’s economic goals and promote a more vibrant and easily accessible port system for stakeholders and enterprises.
